Welcome to the site! We hope to ignite the leader in you and inspire you to spark change in your community!

Youth Climate Group was founded by Nava Tavasoli and Emily Ferraioli in October of 2020. Since learning of the threat of climate change on the news, both of us had always felt passionate about protecting and preserving the environment, and early on, became dedicated to making personal changes to reduce our carbon footprints. We changed our diets, reduced our material consumption, avoided single-use plastic whenever possible, and made many everyday changes to reduce our contribution to causing climate change. Over the past few years, we have learned of the political action being taken to combat climate change.

However, after researching political initiatives created to deal with the climate crisis, we were disappointed to discover just how insufficient these efforts were.

Here in Canada, we are rolling out lethargic climate action too slowly to effectively counter the rapidly intensifying effects of climate change. Climate Action Tracker rates Canadian environmental efforts "insufficient." This means that the country's current data, plans, and projections are not set to hold warming below 2 degrees Celsius. The Paris Agreement outlined that the world community must keep global warming below at least 1.5 degrees Celsius in order to prevent dire environmental harm.

Climate change is an urgent issue, and overall, Canada is not doing nearly enough to properly and appropriately mitigate our contribution to climate change.

This needs to change.

We, the Youth Climate Group, have assembled a diverse group of people enthusiastic about climate change activism and education.

The Youth Climate Group is passionate about educating our communities about the real facts behind climate change with raw honesty. We hope to break the cycle of misinformation and confusion that is heard so often, and in doing this, provoke real action from citizens, just like us!

In addition to this, YCG strives to demand political action from our local and nationwide leaders towards a more sustainable environment. They are the leaders of our country, and citizens look to them for guidance and information. We believe that politicians should use this power and influence to better the future of our environment, and YCG is dedicated to encouraging. Through our participation in town hall meetings, community and industry events, and activism events like protests, we hope to make a real impact for the better in the political atmosphere surrounding climate change in Canada!

Thank you so much for your interest in the Youth Climate Group, and we hope that you feel empowered to learn more about the cause!
